This is my story of the problems I had with a Simmons Comforpedic IQ mattress I bought from Spencers TV and Appliance in Scottsdale, AZ. After less than 12 months of sleeping on it, one side of the mattress has collapsed. The other side is fine. I have contacted Spencers and Simmons and so far they have refused to honor their warranty and stand by their product and will not replace it.
After just a few minutes of research, it became evident that we were not the only one's with Simmons Comforpedic IQ mattress that had failed. All you have to do is Google "Simmons Unhappy Customers" and you will see hundreds of complaints.
If you check the Better Business Bureau, you will see that Spencers TV is NOT BBB accredited. In fact it has a 82% negative rating. Check it out here. So I suppose it's no surprise they are not standing by the products they sell and are not concerned about having unhappy customers.

So back to my story. We bought the bed in the summer of 2014, but didn't have it delivered until November 2014. The first time we slept on the bed was January 2015. The bed is in our condo in Phoenix, AZ where we spend the winters. So up until the time of my complaint, we had slept less than 12 months on it.
A month or two ago, we turned the mattress around. That night, I was shocked because I had gone from sleeping on the side that was still in perfect condition to sleeping on the other side that had a big hollow in it when you laid on it. Trying to roll over was difficult because I was rolling "uphill". I couldn't believe how bad it was. My wife said she knew it was like that but because she hadn't slept on the good side of the bed, didn't know how bad it really was.
To make sure I wasn't over thinking this, I spent time on the other side of the bed...the good side, and it was perfect and it confirmed how bad the sagging side was.
I will update this story as things progress with my complaints to the BBB. As I do so, I will take pictures of the sagging mattress and even do a video showing how it sags when I lay on it.
So I complained to Simmons. They said I need to contact the place I bought it from. So I contacted Spencers TV and Appliance and they sent Premier Inspection Services LTD round to inspect the bed. The inspector came and after he inspected the bed he said that he didn't make the decisions. He said he sent the report back (not sure if it was to Spencers or Simmons) and based on his report, they decided if it was a warranty issue.
Problems With the Report - Below is a copy of the main page of the report. I have two main issues with the report.
- The report says there is a 1/2 inch contour on the sagging side and no contour on the right side. My guess is when laying on the bed, the sagging is at least 2 to 3 inches. I will post pictures and videos of this when I update it.
- The report says there are no manufacturing defects. If so, where does the sagging come from? My wife and I are both 160 lbs or less so sleeping on it for less than 12 months couldn't have caused the sagging.

The bottom line is, my Simmons mattress is garbage and has caved in one side making it virtually unusable. I will have to buy another mattress, but it won't be a Simmons. The other thing is, I don't know who is at fault for not honoring the warranty and standing by their product. Yes, it was Simmons who manufactured a mattress that was a load of garbage and is defective. But I'm not sure who is responsible for the decision not to replace it.
I don't know if it's Simmons responsibility or their decision. I don't know if Spencers TV and Appliance make that decision. And I don't know if Premier Inspection Services have a self interest in reporting the problems to be less severe than they actually are. The bottom line is, I spent good money for what I thought was a quality mattress that is actually a piece of junk and neither Simmons nor Spencers will stand by the product they sold me.
The funny (not ha ha) part to this story, is that we need to buy a new bed for our home and I spent a little time figuring out what the brand and model of this bed was because I loved it and wanted to buy the same mattress for our home...I was sleeping on the good side at that time. It was only when we spun the mattress around and I slept on the sagging side that I realized what a piece of junk it was. We are now researching other options to buy our new bed that will definitely not be a Simmons.
So that is my story so far. As I said, I will continue to update this page with pictures and videos. There is even a Facebook page called "I Have a Defective Simmons Mattress" that is full of people with the same problem.
